ALFREDO GOMEZ SIDELINED WITH KNEE INJURY

An unexpected turn of events happened to Alfredo Gomez as he suffered an injury that will cost him his last 2 rounds of the 2018 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship. The said accident happened during a training accident. The mishap occurred this Tuesday, February 20, at the same time as he was training together with Colton Haaker; his teammate.

He was immediately rushed to the nearest hospital and was found out that he had a fractured fibula on his right knee on top of ligament damage. As Gomez waits for more medical evaluations, it is anticipated that he will undergo a surgical procedure in the following days to come.

He is presently ranked 6th at the Prestige Class thus still having great chance to top the final overall scores at  the 2018 SuperEnduro World Championship. Bad luck seemed to follow Gomez’s recent success last Saturday in Malaga as he placed as a runner-up in the third and final heat. It is not yet confirmed on how long it will take to for Gomez to completely recover but the 2017 Erzberg champion is anticipated to be absent from competition “for a considerable amount of time.” The press release told.

The manager of Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing Team Andi Hölzl had an interview to the press regarding the issue. “At this stage we don’t know the full extent of Alfredo’s injury, but it goes without saying that this is hugely disappointing for him.

“We know that it wasn’t a big crash – a fall on Tuesday, in the matrix section of the SuperEnduro track he was riding on with his team-mate Colton Haaker.

“Alfredo suffered a broken fibula to his right knee, as well as damage to the ligaments. We all wish him a speedy recovery and are looking forward to seeing him back in action as soon as possible.”
