Gordexola Xtreme Enduro: Mario Román Overshadows the Track
The pioneering race of extreme enduro, Gordexola Extreme was dominated by Sherco’s Mario Román in Spain.
After a night prelude on Friday, On Saturday, 155 riders facing an unyielding qualifying stage with two laps and a muddy 60-kilometer that only three men could finish. Mario Román, Xavi León and Alex Hidalgo respectively.
After the enormous amount of riders elimintaed in the qualifying stage, In the superfinal , Mario dominated again in first postion after covering a single lap of 60 kilometers in less than four hours, which gave him an edge of almost 40 minutes over the second who finished , Xavi León
The drivers who crosssed the line was completed by Alex Hidalgo,third, and Josu Artola, fourth.
“It has been a really difficult race, with a very high level of exigency, I would say as the Romaniacs in the Gold category. The qualifying should have been more affordable for amateurs, but rain and mud changed everything. I have just tried not to fail and keep my own safe rythm. I am happy because I have not crashed too much and because we have made important progress on my bike, which has worked great.” Mario stated.
“Without a doubt, it has been the toughest raced this year. In the qualifying the terrain was very complicated because of the mud and I finished at five in the afternoon. Imagine if they do not get to take a lap… And my bike ended up badly damaged by the falls and with the clutch useless, so we had to work thoroughly on it for the superfinal. Now, after having raced the Erzberg, the Carpath, and the Gordexola, it is time to rest” Xavi voiced out.
“I think I’ve participated in the Gordexola four or five times and it´s never been so demanding. In the prologue on Friday I rode very badly, so on Saturday I started the 43rd. I was pushing till I reached the third place and I even managed to catch Xavi León, but then I came down and I already clung to the third place. In the superfinal I started with the muscles somewhat touched, but also I have put wheel of Xavi and we stayed together at the trialera of Christmas.” Alex spoke.
